In memory of the Great Poet Ambassador of Ukraine to the Hellenic Republic H.E. Mr. Volodymyr  Shkurov with his wife, the staff of the Embassy of  Ukraine in Athens and their families, the leadership of the Greek-Ukrainian Chamber and members of the Ukrainian community in Greece laid flowers at the bust of Taras Shevchenko established at the Ukrainian Diplomatic mission and observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the riots in Ukraine.

Later that day , near the monument to Taras Shevchenko , located in the park Goudy of Zografou, the numerous participants have been welcomed by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Hellenic Republic H.E. Mr. V. Shkurov, Vice mayor of Zografou Mr. A.Papakonstantinou,Director of the National Children`s Literature Publishing House `Rainbow` Mr. V.Stepanenko, First Vice-President of the Greek-Ukrainian Chamber Mr. G.-N. Bougas and  professor of the Department of Slavic Studies  National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Mrs. E.Stergiopulu.

Honoring the anniversary of the Great Poet, the the speakers stressed the exceptional role of the life and works of  Taras Shevchenko, who is an example of the fight of Ukrainian people for dignity, freedom and independence.

During the event the poems of Taras Shevchenko have been performed by students of  the Department of Slavic Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, as well as the representative of the Support and Development Center of the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage "Trembita"

Events, devoted to the 200^th anniversary of  Taras Shevchenko`s , will be held by the Ukrainian Embassy and the Ukrainian organizations in Greece during the March.
