On January 20, 2012, a meeting of the representatives of Ukraine’s Embassy in Greece and the Hellenic-Ukrainian Chamber with the students of the Department of Slavic Studies devoted to the 2012 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the Hellenic Republic held at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

In addressing the students, the First Vice President of the Hellenic-Ukrainian Chamber, Mr. Gerasimos Bougas, underlined traditionally friendly relations between the two peoples, took up issues of the current status and future prospects of Ukrainian-Greek economic relations, as well as dwelt on concrete fields of economics such as agriculture, tourism and others, in which young specialists with a knowledge of Ukrainian may fulfill their skills.

In her address, Ukraine’s diplomatic mission Counsellor, Mrs. Hanna Tischenko, drew an audience to the historic decision the Ukrainian nation made in 1991 - proclamation of independence, recognition of our country by the Hellenic Republic and establishment on January 15, 1992 diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the Hellenic Republic, as well as to the achievements of Ukraine during 20 years of independence and various aspects of Ukrainian-Greek relations.

In the course of the following lively debate with the students prospects for the development of Ukrainian-Greek relations in the economic, educational and cultural fields, European integration tread of Ukraine, prospects for the liberalization of visa regime between Ukraine and the EU in the context of development of Ukrainian-Greek collaboration in the field of tourism and other branches of industry were discussed.
