On June 19, 2011, faithful of the Eastern rite Ukrainian citizens residing in Greece solemnly celebrated the 100 year anniversary of the founding in Greece of the Greek Catholic Exarchate.
The Exarchate, which is distinguished by its vast charitable, educational and cultural activities, has become the site of a spiritual harbor and pastorial care for many faithful Ukrainian citizens.
The Exarchate provides accommodations for the Ukrainian school and offices of the Ukrainian Cultural-Educational Center, “Beregynia”. It is equally appreciated that the Exarchate’s Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Athens over the years continues to be a place of liturgical services and festivities for Ukrainians in Greece.
The First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Mr. Ruslan Demchenko, greeted His Eminence Apostolic Exarch of the Byzantine Rite Catholics in Greece, Bishop Dimitrios Salachas, on the occasion of the 100 year anniversary.
The Ambassador of Ukraine to the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Volodymyr Shkurov, attended the Divine Liturgy, which was celebrated in the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Athens in connection with the Exarchate’s 100 year anniversary.
