On May 20, the Parliament of Ukraine adopted the Memorandum of Understanding and Peace.

The document was supported by the majority coalition and the opposition.

The Memorandum calls on all citizens and political forces in Ukraine to unite for a democratic, independent and indivisible state.

The document expresses support for a fair, transparent and democratic presidential elections in Ukraine on 25 May this year and appeals to all citizens of the state to participate in a free vote.

Unlawful use of weapons and violence has been condemned.

The MOU identifies the key areas of urgent constitutional reforms that build on the principle of decentralization of power, outlines the language policy principles according to which besides the constitutional status of Ukrainian as the official state language, the status of the Russian language will be also guaranteed, contains commitments to make the Law of Ukraine "On local referendums".

The adoption of the Memorandum as a broad political compromise act is a result of initiated by Ukrainian leadership "round tables" of National Unity Dialogue, already held in Kyiv and Kharkiv, and will continue particularly today in Mykolaiv.

Ukraine has been consistently implementing the Geneva agreement of 17 April.

We call on all parties to support the implementation of the Geneva agreement, as well as the process of bringing understanding and peace in Ukraine.

We expect the Russian Federation to take real steps for de-escalation of the situation in the eastern part of our country, immediately withdraw troops from the border with Ukraine, stop supporting terrorist groups and separatist, as well as anti-Ukrainian rhetoric.
