On March 26-27, 2011, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Volodymyr Shkurov, visited Patras, the third - largest in population city in Greece and the administrative center of the West Greece Region.
The planned meetings of the Ambassador were held with the leadership of the autonomous bodies of the city of Patras and West Greece region: Vice-Governor of West Greece responsible for Ahaia region, Mr. Grigorios Alexopoulous, Vice-Mayor of the city of Patras with responsibilities in tourism and development issues, Mr. Apostolos Vantarakis, the Director General of the International Drama Festival in Patras, Mr. Ioannis Andriotis, and with His Eminence Metropolitan Chrisostomos of Patras.
During the course of the meetings, discussions took place on the prospects of economic, cultural ant tourism cooperation between two countries, on further steps to deepen interregional ties, as well as on the prospects of intensification of economic collaboration between Ukraine and one of the most economically and industrially powerful region of West Greece. Ukrainian theatre groups were invited to participate in the annual events which are conducted in August-September by the organizers of the International Theatre Festival in Patras. The meeting with His Eminence Metropolitan Chrisostomos of Patras was focused on the intensification of the Orthodox dialogue and on the pilgrimage trips of believers of two countries.
Ukraine’s Ambassador greeted participants of the opening of the exhibition of paintings «Cultures of Cosmos» with the participation of Ukraine’s painters, which was held in Patras on March 26, 2011.
Important part of the Ambassador’s visit program has become his meeting with the members of Ukrainian community of the city of Patras. Ambassador’s meeting with fellow Ukrainians was held in a form of exchange of opinions on the prospects of their involvement into the implementation of joint cultural and educational projects within the framework of Ukrainian-Greek cooperation.
