On November 7, 2014 in the Elefterios Venizelos Hall of the Hellenic Parliament was held the ceremony of presentation and gifting to the Parliament the Ukrainian shrine – facsimile edition of the Peresopnytsia Gospel.
The event was organized by the initiative of the Embassy of Ukraine in Greece on the occasion of the Day of Ukrainian Writing and language in the framework of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko. Co-organizer of the event was the Greek-Ukrainian Parliamentary Friendship Group, headed by the Greek MP Mr. L.Tsavdaridis. Facsimile edition of the Peresopnytsia Gospel has been given by the publishing house `ADEF-Ukraine`(Director Ihor Shpak).
The event was attended by MPs and MEPs from Greece, Government officials, Ambassadors, accredited in Athens, representatives of politicians, business and academia representatives, as well as representatives of the Ukrainian community in Greece.
In his speech, Ambassador Volodymyr Shkurov briefed about the history of Ukrainian writing, and creating the Peresopnytsia Gospel, which is the symbol of the Orthodox revival and state power in Ukraine.
As the Ambassador underlined, the initiative of gifting the Ukrainian First Book - Peresopnytsia Gospel is intended to express respect towards the Hellenic Parliament, as well as to show the respect of Ukrainian people to the friendly Greek people.
As part of the ceremony, the guests heard the singing of the chorus of the Association of Ukrainians in Greece “Ukrainian Land of Storks”.
