On January 22^nd, Ukrainians around the world are celebrating the Day of Unification. On that day in 1919 on the St.Sophia Square in Kyiv was officially announced the „Act of Unification” of the Ukrainian National Republic and Western Ukrainian National Republic. Officially in Ukraine the Day of  Unification  has celebrated since 1999.

Historical Unification Act was preceded by years of struggle of Ukrainian for the territorial integrity, which was extremely important to fight for national interests. Ukrainian state was fragmented and only in January 1918 was created the Ukrainian National Republic (UNR), and in October 1918 (on the former Austro-Hungarian Empire) – the Western Ukrainian People's Republic (ZUNR). In December 1918, the leaders of the UPR and ZUNR signed an agreement of intent to merge and population in both entities in one state, which in 1919 was named "Act of Unification". Shortly after the events of 1919, Ukraine has been divided again, but unification of the Ukrainian territories in a single unified country demonstrated the readiness of Ukrainian have their own state.

Nowadays this holiday gained particular importance, because it symbolizes the struggle for freedom and unification of Ukrainian lands in one state. The words such as Unity, Statehood, Dignity, Independence and Freedom have gained new importance; have become synonymous of the Ukrainian struggle for the unity and independence, democratic values and principles, peace on their own land.

Having celebrate the Day of Unification, like almost a century ago, Ukrainians steadfast in its intention to live in the united and independent Ukraine.

On the occasion of the Day of Unification of Ukraine, in the Cultural center of the Embassy of Ukraine in Greece will be open the exhibition of publications on the history and modern Ukraine. The exhibition will be open from January 22,  from 11.00 to 19.00 and January 23, from 11.00 to 16.00.
