On March 11, 2015 at 19h00 at the premises of Cultural and InformationCenter of the Embassy of Ukraine in Athens will be held opening ceremony of the Exhibition of the publications on the history and present of Odessa and Artistic Works of Ukrainian school students - winners of the XIX Drawing Competition "Spirit of Greece with us"
Exhibition organizers: Embassy of Ukraine to the Hellenic Republic, City Council of Odessa, Society of Ukrainian Diaspora in Greece "Ukrainian-Greek Thought", Culture Fund of Panagiotis Yannakos (gallery "Ksotaris") in cooperation with the Odessa Branch of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture.
The event is dedicated to two simultaneous marked renowned for Ukraine and Greece historic dates that spiritually uniting Ukrainian and Greek peoples. On March 9, 1814 in Ukraine, in the village named Morintsy of Kiev province (now - Poltava Region), was born genius Ukrainian people - poet, artist and philosopher, an ardent fighter for the freedom of his Motherland - Taras Shevchenko. On the same 1814 on Ukrainian territory, in Odessa, was founded the Greek national liberation organization "Filiki Eteria". That’s why the story of the "Filiki Eteria" forever became a part of the history of the Ukrainian city of Odessa, and the personality of Taras Shevchenko – became a part of the history of the Ukrainian people.
The exhibition is on display in the Cultural and Information Center of the Embassy of Ukraine, submitted photos and information materials on the history and present of Odessa, courtesy given for exposure to Greece by the Department of the International relations of Odessa City Council, as well as works of art students from Odessa School - winners of the XIX Drawing Competition "Spirit of Greece with us". The named competition was held in 2014 inUkraine, Odessa, under the initiative of the Odessa Branch of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture and with the assistance of Odessa City Council, and was dedicated to the celebration of the 200th Anniversary of foundation the Odessa Hellenic Liberation Organization "Filiki Eteria". There were submitted 565 art works of the Ukrainian children from Odessa Region, Kyiv and Kharkiv.
The winner was a student of the "Rainbow" Studio of Odessa Center for Children and Youth Creativity "Moryana" – Tanya Mostova (13 years old, with the collage "Odyssey hosted to the nymph Calypso"), a student of Odessa children's art school № 2 Tanya Bayko (12 years old, with drawing "Trojan horse") and a student of Odessa Children Art School Maria Hrobova (12 years old, with the collage "The beginning of Trojan Battle").
For centuries Greek history and culture inspire artists all over the world. Ukrainian students in his works demonstrated good knowledge and skills that best match the phrase of the Great Kobzar "... And Learn foreign, and don`t forget your own" (T.Shevchenko).
During the event, the students of Ukrainian cultural and educational institutions of Greece also will read the immortal works of T.Shevchenko and their own dedication to Great Kobzar.
