Inline with the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, the Ukrainian Bookshelf was officially opened today in one of the largest libraries in Europe, the National Library of Greece of the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center.
This library, which contains more than one million books and periodicals with many rare manuscript codices from the 9th to the 19th century, will create possibilities for Greek readers, as well as those who know or study the Ukrainian language, to get acquainted with modern Ukrainian literature translated into Greek, as well as Ukrainian, including children's works.
Moreover, books by Ukrainian authors who live permanently in Greece can also be found on the Ukrainian shelf.
The Ukrainian Shelf was opened by Serhiy Shutenko, Ambassador of Ukraine to Greece, Nikolas Yatromanolakis, Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports of Greece, Stavros Zoumbulakis, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and Dr. Filipos Tsimpoglu, Director General of the National Library of Greece of the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center, as well as representatives of the Ukrainian community in Greece .
We sincerely thank the Ukrainian community in Greece, the Greek-Ukrainian Chamber and personally its President, Mr. Ioannis Polychronopoulos, for the assistance in the formation of the Ukrainian shelf.
