On March 19, 2012 the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Hellenic Republic Mr. Volodymyr Shkurov had a meeting with the leadership of the North Aegean islands leaded by the Governor Mr. Giakalis at the premises of the Embassy of Ukraine in Athens.

During the meeting the common desire of Ukrainian and Greek sides to intensify bilateral cooperation was expressed. The cooperation in the spheres of tourism and trade was identified as of the major priorities for cooperation. The Sides also discussed the possibilities and potential of the two parties for the implementation of cooperation projects in the sphere of shipping and "green" energy.

The interest in establishing of twinning relations of the abovementioned region of Greece with the regions of Ukraine was expressed. The Greek side also informed about the desire to organize the presentation of North Aegean Islands region in Kiev in the third quarter of 2012.
