On April 3, 2014 on its plenary session the European Parliament supported the proposal of the European Commission to introduce a package of autonomous trade preferences the EU on Ukraine, under which the European Union will unilaterally expand the EU customs privileges, stipulated by the provisions of the Ukraine – EU Association Agreement as a part of the Free Ukraine – EU trade area, on the Ukrainian export.
In the accordance with the procedure, package of the EU`s autonomous trade preferences for Ukraine will come into force after its approval by the Council of the European Union, a decision which is expected soon.
The positive economic impact for Ukrainian exporters in connection with the abolition of reduction of the EU`s customs tariffs in the framework of this decision is estimated at 487 million euros per year.
In this context, Ukraine welcomes European Parliament`s support the above mentioned proposals of the European Commission.
Taking decisions about the autonomous trade preferences, the European Union, in practice, is demonstrating solidarity with Ukraine and making a real step to encourage the growth of the Ukrainian economy and bilateral trade with the EU.
In Ukraine highly appreciates the unparalleled efficiency of preparation and processing of the decision of the European Commission and the European Parliament.
We hope that the introduction of autonomous preferences in May of this year, will allow Ukrainian producers feel the benefits of a deep and comprehensive free trade area between Ukraine and the EU as well as will prepare the proper foundation for its further full launch.
