On April 27, 2014 in the greek city Mandra (Municipality Mandra – Idillia) after a festive liturgy in the Cathedral of Mandra was held the opening ceremony of the Square of "Greek-Ukrainian Friendship" as well the monument of Great Kobzar (made by the Greek sculptor Mr. Altyn Patselis).
The event was held as a part of the Embassy`s event at the framework of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko and became possible thanks to the fruitful cooperation of the Embassy of Ukraine to the Hellenic Republic, municipality of Mandra and Greek-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce, which First Vice-President Mr. H.-N.Bougas took over the funding of Taras Shevchenko`s bust.
On the new naming square of Mandra the numerous guests has been welcomed by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Hellenic Republic H.E. Mr.V.Shkurov, who has also read to the audience the greetings from the acting Minister of foreign affairs of Ukraine Mr. A.Deshchytsia, the welcoming Major of Mandra Mr. G.Drikos, President of the Greek-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce Mr. G.Polihronopoulos, MP of Ukraine Mr. M.Tomenko. The famous greek actor Mr.G.Messalas has read an essay on the life of Taras Shevchenko.
After the opening of the monument in the square was held a gala concert of the Greek ensembles as well as the students of the Sunday school of Ukrainian Society "Trembita" and representative of the "Ukrainian-Greek thing".
With the tumultuous applause was greeted the performance of the Folk Dance Ensemble of Ukraine "Youth of Donbass".
