Ambassador of Ukraine V.Shkurov and Chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Expression and Information of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine M.Tomenko hold a meeting on the Hellenic Parliament

On April 28, 2014 on the Parliament of the Hellenic Republic, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Hellenic Republic H.E. Mr. Volodymyr Shkurov and the Chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, People's deputy of Ukraine Mr. Mykola Tomenko met with the Chairman of the Committee on equality, human rights and youth of the Hellenic Parliament Mrs. Ekaterini Papakosta-Sidiropulu, the member of the Interparliamentary Friendship Group, the deputy of the "New Democracy"  Mr. Michalis Tamilos, the member of the Parliamentary Committee on humanitarian Affairs Mrs. Sofia Vultoni.

During the meeting the sides discussed the urgent issues of the resolving crisis in the eastern regions of Ukraine, the preparation for the presidential election in Ukraine, domestic and economic situation in our country as well as the status of the national minorities in Ukraine.

MP of Ukraine Mr. M.Tomenko provided the necessary clarification on the political situation, preparing for the presidential elections in Ukraine and international cooperation to resolve the crisis.

MPs of the HellenicRepublic, which hold a Presidency of the EU Council,  pledged to support Ukraine as in the context of the Presidency, and given the high level of Ukrainian-Greek relations, which have deep historical context. On their side has been expressed its belief that the Ukrainian government should solve the internal affairs without interference from the external factors.

Ambassador V.Shkurov provided the necessary explanations, including the necessity to use all possible means for the peaceful settlement of the situation in Ukraine on the basis of dialogue and termination of radical actions, that endanger the lives and health of the citizens.

The Ambassador noted, that an outstanding testament to friendship Ukraine and Greece is the development of the humanitarian component of bilateral relations, bright page of which was opening on April 27, 2014 to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko the monument of Kobzar on the specially founded Square of "Greek- Ukrainian Friendship" in Mandra.
