On March 11, 2015, at the Embassy of Ukraine in Greece was held a solemn event, dedicated to the simultaneous celebration of the 201th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko and the 201th anniversary of the foundation on Ukrainian territory, in Odessa, the Hellenic Liberation Organization "Filiki Eteria".
The event was attended by the Embassy officials headed by Ambassador of Ukraine H.E. Mr. Volodymyr Shkurov, Heads and members of the boards of Ukrainian association of Greece, the Hellenic Foundation for Culture, representatives of Ukrainian and Greek community.
From the beginning of the event Ambassador of Ukraine and the Heads of the Ukrainian Community participated at the solemn laying flowers at the monument of Taras Shevchenko, situated at the Embassy`s territory.
While the event, at the Cultural and Information Center of the Embassy was held the opening ceremony of the Exhibition of artistic works of Ukrainian school students - winners of the XIX Drawing Competition "Spirit of Greece with us", which was initiated in 2014 in Ukraine by the Odessa Branch of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in cooperation with the Culture Fund of Panagiotis Yannakos (gallery "Ksotaris"). At the same time the opening ceremony of the Exhibition of the publications on the history and present of Odessa was held.
The named exhibitions are held in Athens by the initiative of the Society of Ukrainian Diaspora in Greece "Ukrainian-Greek Thought", Embassy of Ukraine to the HellenicRepublic, Gallery "Ksotaris", and with the support of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture and City Council of Odessa.
Opening the exhibitions, Ambassador of Ukraine H.E. Mr. Volodymyr Shkurov noted spiritual kinship of Ukrainian and Greek peoples in the struggle for freedom and independence of their Homeland. The Ambassador also read a passage of poetry of T.Shevchenko in Greek, supporting the action of Ukrainian diplomats of reading the poetry of Poet in the world languages.
Honoring the memory of the Great Poet, students of the Ukrainian cultural and educational institutions in Greece have read his poetic works and dedications for Kobzar.
