Nine children from Volyn region (Ukraine), out of the families of the deceased soldiers, spent the unforgettable week in October in Greece on the Holiday of the Holy Mother and the Day of the Defender of Ukraine (officially established on October 14, 2014 by a Presidential decree).
Ukraine celebrates its national holiday, the Day of Defender in order to honour those who serve in the Armed Forces, State Border Guard Service, National Guard, Police Units as well as other Ukrainian war veterans.
This trip to Greece was organized within the framework of the joint project conducted by the Volunteer Movement "Patrons for a Soldier" (Ukraine) and the Association of the Ukrainian Diaspora in Greece "Ukrainian-Greek Thought".
The schedule of the guests from Ukraine was extremely rich. Firstly, they visited the town of Patra in the framework of the participation in the Ukrainistic Children's Camp in Greece, organized by the NGO "Ukrainian-Greek Thought" in cooperation with the Union of Ukrainian-Greek friendship organization "Faros" and with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine to the Hellenic Republic.
Later, kids participated in the first festival "The Meeting of Hellenism", which took place in the municipality of Patra by the organizational initiative of the Union of Ukrainian-Greek friendship "Faros" on October 13th this year.
In the framework of the cultural program in Athens, young Ukrainians also visited the historic-architectural reserve of Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum, as well as had an exciting sea trip. In addition, they also met with their peers from the Ukrainian diaspora in Greece.
A group of Ukrainian children visited the Embassy of Ukraine to the Hellenic Republic, where they met with the staff of the diplomatic mission.
