On July 1, 2011 Ambassador of Ukraine in Greece Volodymyr Shkurov attended competitions of the Special Olympics Summer games ATHENS 2011 with the participation of the Ukrainian National Team athletes.

In the final game Ukrainian soccer team defeated 6:2 Danish National team and won the First place and Championship. The team was supported by the Ukrainian Embassy's diplomats.

Ambassador Volodymyr Shkurov greeted the Ukrainian soccer team as well as a badminton player gained the Bronze.

In the evening, the celebrating event was held at the Embassy of Ukraine in the honour of the Ukrainian Special Olympics athletes. Ambassador Volodymyr Shkurov praised the high results of the Team Members headed by Andriy Pidvarko, Acting National Director of the Special Olympics Ukraine, and presented memorable gifts, wishing further high sport achievements to them.

Ukrainian Special Olympics athletes competing in soccer, track and field athletics, swimming, badminton and bocho have already gained 11 medals: 4 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronze.
